92 points- This vineyard-designate is light and soft, with rounded edges of integrated tannin and oak. Citrus, vanilla, stems and forest add to a length of baking spice and cardamom that intrigues and adds to the complexity of this crisp, deep wine. VIRGINIE BOONE

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
The 2019 La Cruz Pinot Noir shows bright and penetrating deep garnet color with lilac, rose petal, red cherry, and a dust of cocoa powder aromas. The wine exhibits a lovely mouthfeel and texture with a complexity of Bing cherry, cranberry, and juicy strawberry/rhubarb, followed by a balanced and lengthy finish.
Vineyard Notes
The ancient seabed of the San Pablo Bay is mineral-rich, with clay soils that define La Cruz Vineyard. This site is located in the lower portion of the property and sheltered more from the wind. Typical to this vineyard is a bright acidity and signature spice notes. Planted here are Pommard, 667, 828, 777, and clone 123.
Winemaker Notes
The core of La Cruz Pinot Noir comes from the Pommard clone, creating a wine with an elegant backbone. Clones 667 & 777 adds bright fruit and mouth-watering acidity. Small percentages of other clones provide delicacy and spice, bringing all the varietal components together seamlessly. All our Pinot Noir fermentations use native yeast, allowing us to capture a real sense of place. Our winemaking practices strive to gently guide our wines through our gravity feed cellar with minimal intervention. The wine was racked once at bottling after ten months in barrel.
